The Fortuna name has been with Hardy since 1921 and has always been associated with the finest reels for fishing for large salwater species; the first incarnation of the reel was aimed a Tuna Fisherman, and blue water, big game sea fishing more generally. Today's incarnation of the Fortuna is also aimed at those in pursuit of powerful saltwater species such as Tarpon, Bonefish, and Permit.

The modern Fortuna XDS boasts head turning good looks and is the most technilogically advanced reel produced by Hardy since 1930s. During development the reeel underwent extensive testing all over the world, especially in the Florida Keys.

Five Times Gold Cup winning Tarpon fisherman, Andy Mill, was heavily involved in the development of the Fortuna XDS, helping the Hardy team to develop the prototypes for big saltwater fish, and especially Tarpon.

The Fortuna XDS has a seven point sealed multicarbon disc drag system, and up to an incredible 32lb of stopping power to deal with the hardest fighting fish The large arbor allows fast recovery of line and the reel has a large backing capacity for playing fish.

The reel is also designed to avoid heat build up during long runs and is the perfect partner for the Hardy Sintrix Zephrus SWS rod range.

The Fortuna XDS is constructed from top grade aluminiu, and the seven point sealed drag prevents saltwater corrosion.

Although the Fortuna XDS was developed with saltwater fishing in mind, its large arbor, relatively low weight and great stopping power means it also makes a fantastic Salmon reel.
